What is OtoRevo? It’s a joint marketing campaign to discover Japan’s next major artist via the Internet. It’s called OtoRevo which translates to “Sound Revolution”, an online music competition similar to American Idol. The winner of the OtoRevo competition will be signed to Columbia Music Entertainment.
I was able to bring on board some amazing partners for this project:
- SANYO who will be making a limited edition OtoRevo Xacti camera. You can buy it now on Amazon (in Japan). They will be giving away some of these cameras to the top 10 artist.
- AMAZON JAPAN will be providing distribution and promotion for the artist we sign. The lucky band is sure to be a hit with Amazon Japan’s support. Amazon Japan will also promote this campaign to Independent artist who use their website.
- SIX APART the most successful blogging software company is providing a platform for artist to connect to their fans through blogs.
- COLUMBIA MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT will be signing a artist to their major label and searching for new artist to sign to their independent label.
I tend to get involved in building companies that challenge tradition, FON challenged the traditional telecom industry by giving away free wifi when telephone companies were charging $20 a hour. SecurityLab challenged the national government when Nagano’s governor requested us to audit Japan’s national ID system. Now I’m challenging traditional music industry norms by relying on the power of the Internet community to discover and release a major artist. This is a grass roots attempt to change the music industry. I think OtoRevo has the potential to execute new and profitable business models. And to explore this I’ve teamed up with Jordan Ritter, co-founder of Napster.
You can support the movement by telling your friends who are musicians and music fans to join OtoRevo and become a RevoBito.
You should blog about this if you have a blog.
