The issue of morality

I’m getting a little older and set in my ways. Lately I’ve noticed that my opinions on things have become a lot more solid and unmovable. I don’t think thats a bad thing, but I’m also evaluating whether or not I’m standing for the right things. I was out with a group of people a two months ago when one of the guys said something that was disrespectful, not to anyone in particular in the group but I was pretty disgusted. But when someone in the group called him out on it “I think what you just said is uncalled for and absolutely disrespectful.” My impression was “this is someone who knows what he believes is right and is willing to stand by it.”

Lately I’ve agrued that being drunk is no excuse for corrupt morals. I’ve also have many problems with the concept of “its just business” but dispite my feelings on how people should behave in business I still have to do business with these types of people, the same way I will have to drive on the road with people who feel like its ok to drink and drive. Unfortunatly most of the time I won’t be able to tell someone in business “I think the way you do business is absolutely corrupt.” Some people feel “when its business its ok to be a little bad” and “when you’re drunk you’re not really guilty.”

I too recently debated the same thing here:

    Drunk words: Your real sentiment?

My conclusion was the opposite of yours that drunk words do not count.

I share this feeling, and I believe we should continue to stick to our “morality”, which is the only thing that makes us to be proud of what we do.

Morality is just what society decided to be most pro-survival for its people. Ethics is what one decides is sane and rational. Usually, morality and ethics are in harmony with each other, unless a person is not responsible enough or/and morality is obsolete. But we normally know what’s right and wrong, so I am with you Ejovi.
