In Japan this month

I will be in Japan this month from July 24th - August 9th. My inspiration for gather at came from the year I lived in Japan. Actually the first version of gather at was built in 2004 but I never launched it. The setup is based on a Japanese dating system called Gokon. What I have taken is the underlining foundation that you meet in small groups through mutual friends for specific activities. The ingredients of a trusted link and a common interest in a specific activity were very compelling to me. It seemed like a great way to meet people without the pressure associated with meeting people. At the least you do something you enjoy with someone you trust, at best you expand your friendships through a foundation of trust. That’s the underlining theory.

I hope to launch the site in beta in the next two weeks so look for your invitations. I want to schedule dinners and outings with anyone who can get together a small group of people in Tokyo, Osaka or the vicinity. Would you like to gather? The gather’s will be recorded by me for a documentary on building the community and we can meet for anything really.

My major issue is that I’m too focused on the concept and I need to go back to its roots and try applying it while ironing out the bugs. I think I need to meet with people to hear how they would like to use the site and spending some time relaxing wouldn’t be bad either. I’m going to have a small party in Osaka and Tokyo too. Let me know if you or your friends would like to attend.

Really interested, but probably can’t make the trip. Let us know if you ever have a meet up here in Hokkaido. I’d bet there’s a fair number of people who would come.

Sounds interesting. Hopefully me and some friends can make it to your Tokyo party.

Ejovi - Japan sounds like fun… My sister’s boyfriend is working there this month. He’s a cool cat and I’ll let me know.

Have you decided on where to launch gather at? My vote is still Honolulu!

    Hi, Ejovi

As I commented before I thought the original URL naming gather.at
very brilliant and now I realized it is being redirected at http://www.gatherat.com. I am just curious if there is any reason that it has to be .com domain instead of .at domain?

Anyway, I would like to join one of those dinner meetings in Tokyo if the schedule will meet. Please let me know.

    Best
