Minorities in Tech Conference?

I am wondering if there is a market and need for a conference focused on minorities in technology? I think there needs to be a conference that brings together minorities in technology. This would include Hispanics, African Americans, Indians, Asians and even Caucasians working with minority groups.
The first purpose would be to discuss how to build technology that helps them bring services to their communities and the public in general. The second and more important is to create a networking event where minorites can meet and touch skin with other minorities in technology. Maybe new business ideas will be developed, maybe new friendships, who knows. But I think there really has to be a event where we all can just get together in a room and talk. The conference obviously wouldn’t be limited to minorities.

Hi,
Ejovi, I couldn’t agree with you more. I have spent 11 years working with technology, and most of the people that I have come in contact with are very smart, but there really was never any time connect with them and discuss how we as technology professionals can try and bring more services to not just minorities, but to the poor as well. I would be interested in being a part of something like that. I have been thinking of starting a blog or Yahoo! Group that could start as a networking/meeting spot for us to connect and try to work together on this. When I get it up and running, I will let you know.
I am from Rural South Georgia, and there is a need for poor people to gain access to technology because in my career I have seen poor children take to tech as a duck to water, and they even manage to find new ways of using MS Powerpoint or searching for information on the Net. We can reach more if we all can come together first, then work together.
