More on Japan’s National ID (Juki Net)

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

If you want to read some more about the results of my security audit of Japan’s national ID check out Joi Ito’s letter to the Governor of Nagano. His letter was the result of my test.

Academia

The academic environment Harvard offers is great; I only wish I had more time to take full advantage of it. Starting SecurityLab has been a trying process. Its hard work yet amazingly invigorating. The feeling of creating and developing something that I truly believe in is a great. The fact that my employee’s believe in it too, encourages me even more.

Harvard on the other hand has taught me to question and to argue in a convincing manner. I am sure this is what any good undergraduate school offers but for me it has been an inspiring process.

Juggling the two, school and business has been interesting to say the least. I have a wonderful assistant to help me on the business side and I have mastered the art of the 30 minute essay. Sometimes I feel like I should be giving school more of my time, especially since I am giving them so much of my money! But my company is important to me. I see what we are doing, and what needs to be done as a process I must continue until completion. If there is such a thing!

Social Security

I won’t be voting for Bush, but if I had it would have been because of his stance on Social Security privatization. I recently received a letter from the Social Security Administration telling me how much of my money they had waiting for me, and it was a lot. However it is unlikely I will ever see it. Social Security works as along as their are more people paying into the system then people taking out of it, and in the next twenty-five years that won’t be the case.

Bush doesn’t even have a real plan yet for how he would privatize Social Security without giving his cronies on Wall Street a trillion dollar slush fund, but if I can have control over my “retirement” fund, I would sure as hell prefer that then leaving it to the questionable state it is currently in.

Busy past few weeks

These past few weeks have been very busy. Starting SecurityLab and preparing for my talk at PacSec Japan where I will talk about my test of Japan’s national ID system (JUKINET). It is the first time to publicly speak about my work, and it is the first time talking about my involvement in the Juki Net audit which was very highly publicized at the time. It will be interesting to see how it goes over. I plan on writing more about the talk next week.

For more information on the test, see Ejovi’s Juki Net Audit

Jon Stewart on Crossfire

Jon Stewart’s appearence on crossfire is on bittorrent. He attacks the hosts of the show for being “partisan hacks” and hurting the democratic process. Amusing.
