Not in Japan
Just a reminder, I’m not in Japan at the moment. The journal entries I am posting now are from my stay in Japan two years ago. This is why they are all dated 2002. I need to update my pictures section. I’ve managed to develop a little Japan in Boston with Okinomiyaki (Japanese food) parties and such.
In other news. I bought a Apple G5, unfortunatly I’ve been too busy to actually do anything with it, and right now I use it as a expensive web browser. Anyone have suggestions for applications I can run on my new G5?

Anyday now, Apple is suppose to come out speed bump.
Oh well, one can never really keep up with technology plus you don’t want the first generation.
G5 are great machines. If you have some spare cash I would purchase Virtual PC and try to run windows, gnu/linux, OpenBSD and solaris all at the same time.

I agree VirtualPC is great. It’s handy to test apps in without screwing up a whole install. Just make a copy of the drive image that you create. Also with VPC, just buy the DOS version, it’s cheaper and you can still install any version of windows you like. On my powerbook I was testing with 98, 2k, 2k Advanced Server and Server 2003. They all installed no problem. BBEdit is a great all around editing/developing tool. Grab Ecto to update your blog. Little Snitch will tell you what’s going on with your network connections. Etherpeek will log the traffic on your network. Also grab Toast for a better CD/DVD burning solution. What did you have planned for the Mac?

Drool….I’ve been waiting for VATech to send me one of their “old” g5’s from their cluster but I think they might have not gotten my e-mail asking for one.
Depends what you want to do with it. VPC is a great app. I also use BBEdit and Ecto for my site. Does it come w/ the ilife04 suite or vrsn 3? If 3, i recommend the upgrade. Definately.
Enjoy the machine!
