Today InfoSecDaily.net was named Feedster feed of the day. InfoSecDaily is a site I’ve been developing with Jose Nazario as a resource for security professionals and people generally interested in what’s going on in the security / privacy arena.
Its an evolving site, but it’s great to be honored, especially on my birthday!

I was recently invited to join Orkut a new social network by Google. It’s a real social network that allows you to meet people with the same interest. As opposed to the “six degrees of seperation” idea the other networks are using.
In one of the discussion groups there was talk of how to secure your passport when traveling abroad…
“Luckily, prior to our adventures in Costa Rica I had our group members scan passports, drivers licenses, birth certificates, credit card information (phone numbers for cancelling cards), etc. into a single TIFF file. The documents were then gathered and placed on a highly secured web server. When we were robbed, all we had to do was visit a local internet cafe and print the documents out on a color printer. Without the documents, it would have been a 2 week wait at the American embassy in San Jose. While all travelers are told to keep copies of their ID docs on hand and, if traveling in groups intermixed, this method works well in those instances one is absolutely robbed.”
Seems like an interesting idea, anyone want to start a secure travel company? Go for it.

So it seems like my “security industry” hunch was correct. Symantec earnings beat target. If you had purchased when I first mentioned the stock you would have made $5 a share (%15). Not bad for a security geek.
On a similar note, Price Waterhouse has been snapping up a lot of security professionals. Their partnership with former Mayor Guilani to offer security services seems to be popular.
